The Power of Language

Ok, so I just came across the cutest post on facebook! It's a testament to the ideology that all of our thoughts and behaviors are gendered! Thx Lalee!

Music For The Soul

Hola Comapaneros! If you're in the mood for some feel good music, check out Quantic & His Combo Barbaro! The latest album, Tradition in Translation was released July 6th and features a unique fusion of Caribbean, Latin American, and African rhythms. For all my concert-lovin' folks, the band is playing tomorrow, August 15th at the Echoplex in Los Angeles. Tickets are fifteen dollars a pop, and are available on their website, at www.quantic.org. This is sure to be a blast, and if I get the chance to make it out, I'll mos def post pics from the event.

Check out the site for snippets of the new cd, and a FREE download of my favorite jam, Arianita!

Peace,
~Blazin'Ebony

Are We Lagging Behind?

Hey Good People! I came across a poem today that got me to thinking about the position of women in the struggle for justice in this country, and across the globe. I came to the conclusion that instead of fighting to sit at the front of the bus, we should focus our efforts on drivin' that sucka! Peep some truth below! ~Blazin'Ebony

I'm not one of those who believes
That an act of valor, for a woman
Need take place inside her.

My womb is packed in mothballs
And I hear that winter will be mild.

Anyway I gave birth twice
And my body deserves a medal for that
But I never got one.

Mainly because they thought
I was just answering the call of nature.

But now that the revolution needs numbers
Motherhood got a new position
Five steps behind manhood.

And I thought sittin' in the back of the bus
Went out with Martin Luther King.
